Imagination and Exploration Station

Imagination and Exploration Station is a program for school-aged children during school closures and breaks, Pro-D days and afterschool.  It is a program designed for the specific needs of this age group to challenge them and provide a home away from home.  Children in this program will have the opportunity to create, explore and engage with the world around them.  We are situated in an area that allows for a lot of outdoor exploration.  There are two groups in this program and teachers will place the children in the group they feel best matches their personality, the overall group dynamics and any friends from school they may have.  This may take some time for the teachers to get to know your child and adjustments can be made if necessary.

Children will have the chance to explore, create and engage through activities such as baking, cooking, sewing, art, science.  Guest speakers and field trips will be planned.

Children must be in Kindergarten or older to attend and no older than 12 years of age.  Bussing is available from Kinnaird Elementary and the Twin River Campuses, the bus stop is right at our building, teachers will meet and greet the children off the bus.  Please register your child for Bus 7.

Imagination Station Daily Plan and Activity Outline

Our daily schedule will be loosely planned around the sample schedule given below but will accommodate for extending and enriching activities as needed. If a child or children becomes fascinated with an activity, then other activities will shortened, extended or shifted as needed to facilitate a natural learning outcome.

Our philosophy is built on the foundation that children learn through play.

Free play will consist of playing in centres, hanging out with a book in the reading corner, engaging in free art or interacting in small group activities. Free art will be available every day at free play, age appropriate materials and supplies will be available for children to create as their heart desires, and an easel will be available with paints, paintbrushes and other mediums. Children are encouraged to don their own smock, clean-up after their workspace and themselves, this helps children gain independence and self-sufficiency. Centres will be available with a rotation of toys, games and puzzles. Sensory bins and/or water play will be a regular part of free play and will change on an ongoing basis to facilitate interest. Children are welcome to curl up to look at a picture book. Free play is such a vital time for kids, they gain independence, are able to make choices for themselves and it gives children and opportunity to socialize and gain social skills.

Group Time wil be a time of the day set aside for getting together as a group to listen to guest speakers, work on a group collaborative project, listen to a story, create music, dance or do yoga.

Outdoor Time will consist of organized games as well as free play. We will utilize the amazing outdoor space right outside our door to engage in sports, games, hikes, geocaching, scavenger hunts, nature walks and more.
